The Medical Journal of Australia’s badly trained puppy has left a puddle on the carpet

Yesterday, the 6minutes Newsletter, a mouthpiece for the Medical Journal of Australia and a supposed source of reliable information for Australian doctors, published an exceptionally substandard article on hormone replacement therapy for women. It is so riddled with errors, it is hard to know where to start the criticism. Here’s the link: http://www.6minutes.com.au/news/latest-news/safe-therapies-underused-in-menopausal-women Let me begin by saying that The 6minutes Newsletter publishes material that seems to have no one in charge filtering the substantive parts of the information database they mine from the accompanying…

Newscorp rivaling Fairfax for stupid reporting on Paleo diets: and that’s difficult to do!

IN Australia, there is a concerted effort on behalf of food manufacturers to stop any references to healthy eating from reaching the public. The Paleo diet is under attack by ignorami who have no understanding whatsoever of the natural human diet that we evolved on. For over two million years modern humans have eaten a certain way: that is, until the last few centuries but particularly in the last 50 years. That way was called Paleo. Forget the variations of Paleo for the moment: it is…

Fairfax Media, Dubious Academia and the University of Sydney

Just posted from Fairfax Media: ‘Nutritionists warn of dangers in Paleo dieting’ and the article goes on to say incredibly idiotic stuff like: ‘The Paleo diet might be heading for extinction, like the cavemen who inspired it, after the country’s leading nutrition body warned Australians that the popular eating plan is potentially dangerous.’Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/diet-and-fitness/nutritionists-warn-of-dangers-in-paleo-dieting-20140805-100iup.html#ixzz3idmGAAEa  First, to call it Paleo meant that humans evolved on this diet and secondly, cave men did not die out but kept on reproducing and that is why you and I…

Medical Tribunals: revenge, ignorance and failing the public

Today, the ‘Australian Doctor’ reported on the sanction of a GP who may or may not have performed substandard medicine. I cannot judge that but I can comment on the tribunal’s attitude to the use of testosterone supplementation. Here is part of the their findings: ‘Although the tribunal described the doctor as an “intelligent, passionate man who cares deeply about his patients”, it said his “narrow view” of medicine caused him to interpret symptoms, signs and pathology reports in a way that was out of…

Why is Testosterone a Controlled Substance?

Original article December 21, 2011 By Dr. Joe Jacko  (Updated by Robin Willcourt, July 27, 2015) Did you know that as you read this, your body is manufacturing a substance that the U.S. Congress and other governments in unenlightened countries, Australia being one of them, have determined to be a controlled substance?  How can a hormone that the body naturally makes, not only in men, but also in women and children be considered to be dangerous enough to classified as a controlled substance? It’s easy…

The Medical Journal of Australia and it’s badly trained puppy- The 6minute Newsletter

For many months I have been keeping track of the drivel that Amanda Davey, among other non-discriminating analysers of the medical literature have been presenting to the Australian medical community through the Medical Journal of Australia (MJA) and The 6minutes Newsletter. Having a poor ability to discriminate between the 50% or so of the fraudulent papers that get published in the medical literature, they highlight one idiotic article after another, leaving the Australian practitioner with damagingly doctored data on which to shape his or her daily…

The Medical Journal of Australia, Climate Change and Charlatans

Today the Medical Journal of Australia’s newsletter, MJA 6Minutes, weighed in on climate change. The article was written by Fiona Armstrong, who is an Associate, Melbourne Sustainable Societies Institute, University of Melbourne; Sessional Lecturer, School of Public Health and Human Biosciences at LaTrobe University commenting on the 2015 Lancet Commission on Health and Climate report. This report comes six years after the  groundbreaking first Commission report – a collaboration between the Lancet and University College London – which described climate change as the ‘biggest global health threat…
